Did You Know?

... that Some Like It Hot was chosen to be the number one comedy in the American Film Institute's 100 Years 100 Laughs movie selection.

... The all girl band "Sweet Sue and her Society Syncopaters" is headed for Florida, but in reality the movie was shot on location at the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego, California. The grand old hotel has a website with a wonderful photo gallery that tells it's history including the making of Some Like it Hot and the story of the ghost which haunts the hotel.

... You can see the actual Pullman sleeping car that takes the band from Chicago to Florida but you'll have to go to Chattanooga, Tennessee. It is part of the great collection of trains at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum.

... In the beginning of the movie Tony Curtis tells Jack Lemmon he worries too much and gives him a list of things that you could 'suppose" would go wrong. Of course most of them do happen. We don't think Lake Michigan has ever overflowed though, has it?

    Jerry: Suppose he loses?
Joe: What are you worried about? This show is gonna last a long time.
    Jerry: Suppose it doesn't?
Joe: Jerry boy, why do you have to paint everything so black?...Suppose you got hit by a truck. Suppose the Stock Market crashes. Suppose Mary Pickford divorces Douglas Fairbanks. Suppose the Dodgers leave Brooklyn...Suppose Lake Michigan overflows.

Oh wait, we found this headline "Lake Michigan Flood Warning Issued for Chicago ( July 2, 2008)"

... You can read the screenplay for Some Like It Hot.

... Some Like it Hot was made into a Broadway play called Sugar. The title role Marilyn Monroe part was played by Elaine Joyce who was married to Bobby Van, had an affair with J. D. Salinger and is now married to playwright Neil Simon.

... You've probably seen the PBS television show Antique Roadshow where people haul in things they own to see how much they might be worth. On a show in June 2008 a man brought in a dress which he said had been worn by Marilyn Monroe in Some Like it Hot. This is the happy ending. Click here to see the expression on the man's face when he hears the good news.

APPRAISER:...worn by one of the greatest sex symbols of the 20th century. In an auction, I would not be surprised at all if it went for somewhere between $150,000 and $250,000.
    GUEST: Oh, my g... Whoa!
APPRAISER: And actually, with the unpredictability of the market for this type of item, it would not surprise me at all if it went much higher.
    GUEST: Wow.

... Young fans watching Some Like it Hot for the first time will probably not know much about the actor playing the role of Osgood E. Fielding III. If you ask your grandparents who he was don't be surprised if they let out with a loud yell. Joe. E. Brown was known for his huge mouth and his loud drawn out yell. We found a early version of it here:

... Tony Curtis has written an autobiography called American Prince: A Memoir which includes a chapter on his experience dressing like a woman and working with Marilyn Monroe in Some Like it Hot.
