A Countdown to High Noon

Many people believe that High Noon takes place in real time but that is not exactly true. While time can intead be can be seen ticking off on the various clock shots that appear through the course of the movie - a close inspectation shows some time jumps both backwards and forwards. Director Fred Zinneman did want to give audiences the illusion of time passing - he never felt the need to rigidly stick to a literal passing of 85 minutes to High Noon.
