John Wayne Movie Favorites

In 1939 John Wayne became a star playing the role of The Ringo Kid in John Ford's classic western Stagecoach. Geromino is on the warpath and the stagecoach is traveling right through dangerous territory.

Soldiers and Cowboys. Those are the roles that defined John Wayne.. This was one of his first soldier roles. They Were Expendable. John Ford was just back from serving in the Navy when he directed this story of the PT boats and their role in defending the Philippines during World War II

John Wayne and Henry Fonda are Calvary officers who have different ideas about how to deal with the Apache Chief Cochise in Fort Apache

On the list of John Wayne's best performances Red River. He's on a cattle drive with his stepson Montgomery Cliff.

She Wore a Yellow Ribbon won an Academy Award for its beautiful color cinematography. Once again John Wayne is an Indian fighting Calvary officer.

John Wayne is a tough Marine Sargent in Sands of Iwo Jima. Three of the soldiers who were the real life flag raisers on Iwo Jima have cameo roles.

You'll want to make a visit to Ireland after you watch The Quiet Man. Playing neither a cowboy nor a soldier John Wayne and Maureen O' Hara made a wonderful screen couple.

Ethan Edward's niece has been stolen by Indians. The Searchers will be on your list of best westerns and some people's list of best movies.

Rio Bravo has every element of the classic western. Unlike that High Noon sheriff Sheriff John T. Chance is not going to ask for any help in handling those bad guys.

We know it's not a great movie but John Wayne directed it and he plays Davy Crockett so we are adding The Alamo to the must see list for all fans.

Rooster Cogburn was the role that won John Wayne the Oscar. It's a role no one else could have played. TRUE GRIT is a very entertaining western.

John Wayne's final movie was The Shootist. Playing a dying gunfighter in a dying era, John Wayne left us on a very very high note.
