He expertly cultivated his athletic prop enhanced "I'm Just a Regular Joe" dancing style to be the perfect counterpoint to fellow MGM musical star Fred Astaire's debonair "top hat and tails" persona thereby etching a place for himself as one of Hollywood's greatest musical stars.
