It's a Wonderful Life Fun Features

This is the section for all our "FUN" It's a Wonderful Life information - please enjoy!

Did You Know?

The Bells of St. Mary's is playing at the movie theater on Main Street. Henry Travers, the actor who played Clarence starred in that film also.

… Bert is seen reading a newspaper with the headline "Smith Wins Nomination." This is a reference to Frank Capra's film Mr. Smith Goes to Washington which also starred James Stewart.

... Yet another way you can take pleasure in the tale of George Bailey (although his name is George Pratt (!) here) is to read the original story written by Philip Van Doren Stern. He was unable to find a publisher for his story so he sent it out as a Christmas card to his friends.

... at the age of six, Karolyn Grimes played the role of Zuzu Bailey in It's A Wonderful Life. Today she travels the country making special appearances and maintains a website for her fans. You can buy her book Zuzu Bailey's It's A Wonderful Life Cookbook if you would like the recipes for Buffalo Gal's Beef Stroganoff or Crabby Potter's Cheese Muffins.

... because we would never want our readers to miss an opportunity to have their lives turned into a reality TV Show we are going to tell you that a show called Seneca Falls (which is believed to be the town Bedford Falls is based on) is looking for people with real life inspirational stories like George and Mary Bailey's. We'll let this very energetic woman tell you how to submit your story of how the movie It's A Wonderful Life changed your life.

… ... Yes some people do believe that the upstate New York town of Seneca Falls was the real life inspiration for Bedford Falls. The people of the town are so convinced they hold a festival every year which includes screenings of the movie. You can read about the many similarities between the towns here.

... You can read the screenplay for It's A Wonderful Life.

... It has come to light that in 1947 in its quest to ferret out the communists in Hollywood the FBI issued a memo detailing the subversive communist propaganda contained in the movie It's A Wonderful Life. You can read a transcription of the original memo.

… ... The famous Bedford Falls High School Charleston Dance scene which ends with Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed in the water of the pool below the retractable gymnasium floor was filmed at Beverly Hills High School. The Swim Gym still exists today and is maybe the only high school gym that has a basketball court which opens to reveal a 23 meter swimming pool.

... Just for fun we love to find funny spoofs of our favorite movies. We're not sure this one is even funny, but we have to share. Demonstrating how fleeting fame is you may have trouble recognizing some of these Season Seven American Idols. But we're sure you'll want to see Little David Archuleta as Zuzu.

… ... Beulah Bondi, the actress who played George Bailey's mother had been Jimmy Stewart's mother three times before: Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Of Human Hearts and Vivacious Lady.
