Close Encounters of the Third Kind Theme Song

The humans in Close Encounters of the Third Kind communicate with the aliens with musical tones. The five musical tones in Close Encounters are, in solfege, Re, Mi, Do, Do, So. The second Do is an octave below the first. The five tones were chosen by composer John Williams after trying about 350 of the approximately 134,000 possible five-note combinations available in the 12-tone chromatic scale.

You can learn the solfege scale and the corresponding hand signals (used by the aliens) here. This would be a handy thing to know if you are ever going to be meeting aliens.
