This is the section for all our "FUN" All About Eve information - please enjoy!

Did You Know?

… that Bette Davis and co-star Gary Merrill fell in love on the set and were married soon after filming ended. They went on to film together Another Man's Poison (1952) and Phone Call from a Stranger.

... that All About Eve is tied with Titanic and Ben-Hur for having received the most Academy Award nominations ever for a single movie. All three movies were nominated 14 times. Don't forget to visit our Tribute to Titanic.

... that All About Eve director Joseph L. Mankiewicz won two Academy Awards for this movie - Best Director and Best Screenplay. (He repeated this rare Oscar sweep again in 1950 for A Letter for Three Wives and is the only person to have received two sets of Best Director/Best Screenplay Oscars.)

… that All About Eve was adapted into a musical called Applause. Lauren Bacall originated the Broadway role of Margo Chaning. Here is a rare clip of Lauren Bacall singing "But Alive" in a TV version of the Broadway play.

... All About Eve opens at the ceremony for the presentation of the Sarah Siddon Award. Is there really such an award? We're so glad you asked. When the movie was made the award was a figment of writer and director Joseph Mankewicz's imagination. However two years after the movie came out a group of women in Chicago decided to give a real award of the same name for outstanding performance by an actress in a Chicago theatre production. Helen Hayes was the first recipient. In 1973 Bette Davis was presented with an honory Sarah Siddon award even though she did not appear in a play in Chicago. You can go to the Sarah Siddon website to see the names of other winners. And who was Sarah Siddon the woman whose image and name the award is based on? Sarah Siddon was a Welsh stage actress in the 18th century.

... Winner of the Best Screenplay Academy Award , listed as #5 on the WGA Greatest Screenplays of all time list and contains some of the best movie lines ever - you can read the script for All About Eve.

... Life imitates Art. In 1983 Aaron Spelling made a pilot for a TV show called Hotel starring Bette Davis as the owner of the hotel. When she became ill guess who took over her role? Anne Baxter and the show aired for five years. We don't think there was any scheming involved.
